Making Slideshows

My image hosting company introduced another new feature recently, it displays all of the pictures stored in a gallery in slideshow format.  Nothing particularly innovative quite a nice way of browsing a gallery:

Meanwhile, if a photographer requires a slideshow that can be embedded in another page, there is always the option of using slide.com.

Offline slideshows can be created as screensavers or movie files by a number of different software packages, e.g. Picasa, though you usually have limited control over the slideshow speed.  If you need a tool that will create slideshows with complicated transitions and/or timed with a music track, then it is a package like Premiere Elements you will need.

RSS your life

Increasingly, websites are offering RSS feeds of your content.  For those that don't know RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a framework that allows for the publishing of your web content in multiple locations and for users to subscribe to your stuff.

What does this mean, well if you look at my tribe.net profile it reproduces content on buzznet, delicious, blogspot and 43 things.  I get a cool profile, which updates automatically, without any extra work.

Meanwhile, since this is a chiefly a photography blog I am obliged to mention a new photo-critique website.  It's run by the owner of UK Photo Models, it's free and it's looking for new members.  Join below:

Beauty Airbrushing and Postcode search

I came across this interesting tutorial on airbrushing.  The author takes us through, step by step, his process for cleaning a models skin of its little blemishes.  The screenshots are from the macintosh version of photoshop but equivalent tools are available on other packages so I am sure it is generically useful tutorial.

Another model search engine here,  but this is the first one I have seen that has implemented a UK-based postcode search.  If you register, you can do a search specifying a location and the search engine will return all the models within a certain distance.  A very powerful tool.  One thing I am not so happy about is that models and photographers are asked for their full postcode, although it is not subsequently published.  For those that don't know,  the second part of a UK postcode ties your address down quite specifically, to about half a street.  For models, its enough information to turn an online-stalker into a real life stalker and I usually advise models to be careful about who they give it to.

Still its nice to see a website take a fresh approach to model search.
